Ford the big winner as Consumer Reports releases annual list of American Top Picks

Each year that Consumer Reports offers up its annual list of Top American Picks, it seems less and less a consolation bracket and more like a reasonable set of choices. To wit, if you wanted the very best family-sized SUV Consumer Reports will tell you that you're best off choosing American, regardless of which list its from.

Further, CR has found the Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan twins have proven to be more reliable than a Honda Accord or Toyota Camry. Blasphemy, you say? To borrow a marketing phrase from the Blue Oval itself, Drive One and find out for yourself. Apparently, it's also reliable. Not surprisingly, the Fusion managed to earn two more awards in its hybrid guise, including CR's Best Overall Car.

All told, seven of the 10 awards handed out by CR went to Ford – an impressive performance. Two Top Picks were filled by vehicles from General Motors while Chrysler didn't have a single model on the list, which isn't particularly surprising since the Dodge Ram is the only model from the Pentastar to even make the running. 2011 Ford Transit Connect Electric

Ford Motor Company has its first all electric vehicle ready for production later this year.  The Ford Transit Connect goes electric and will be on sale later in 2010. Ford is collaborating with Azure Dynamics Corporation to upfit the Transit Connect Electric with Azure’s Force Drive™ battery electric powertrain and Johnson Controls-Saft’s advanced lithium-ion battery technology.  “Transit Connect Electric exemplifies how we are leveraging our relationships as well as our hybrid and advanced powertrain programs to bring energy-efficient technologies from the laboratory to the street,” said Derrick Kuzak, Ford group vice president, Global Product Development. “Not only is this an ideal vehicle for eco-conscious fleet operators, it is an important part of Ford’s future.”

2011 Ford Edge Unveiled

Ford unveiled the all-new 2011 Ford Edge last week at the Chicago Auto Show.  The new 2011 Edge has bolder styling cues on the exterior with refreshing new interior that incorporates Ford's break-through MyTouch technology.  This is the first redesign of the Ford Edge since it hit the ground in 2006.  In the 2011 model buyers will have three engine choices featuring a new 2.0 Liter I-4 Eco-Boost with class-leading horsepower and torque for a four cylinder engine with best-in-class fuel economy with improvements of at least 10% versus comparable V6 engines.  The 3.5 Liter V6 will remain as the base engine in the edge, while the Sport gets a larger 3.7 Ti-VCT V6 that delivers 305 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque on 87 octane.  Learn more about the 2011 Ford Edge at the official site, www.fordvehicles.com/2011Edge.

 

 

Ford's Sales Rise 24.6% in January 2010

Ford announced sales numbers for January 2010 and came in with a 24.6% increase versus a year ago.  Ford's U.S. market share also increased 2 points to an estimated 16%.  Ford's cars continue to lead the way with sales of cars up 43%.  Among the big car increases are the Ford Fusion, recently named Motor Trend Car of the Year up 49%, the all-new Ford Taurus up 121%.  The Ford Escape led suv's with a 29% increase, while the Ford Edge led the crossover segment with a 26% increase year-over-year.
